Spending the amount of time that I do attempting to absorb and process the news and trends of the day I’ve learned a few things: don’t overreact, give it a bit of time to see what else turns up, leave the histrionic kneejerk responses to the MSM. In terms of Democrats in power it is nearly never actually about what they say it’s about, regardless of what ‘it’ is.
Case in point; Senator Chuck Schumer has no intention of supporting legislation that would keep families together because “keeping the focus on Trump” is more important. It’s not about the ‘children’ and the ‘families’ assuming that they actually are families and not child traffickers, which some clearly are, some clearly are also being used as beards. It’s about resisting Trump. The moral bankruptcy is astounding as the media goes bat guano crazy over crying children (flash small children often do cry) and pictures of children in cages that was actually part of a protest during the Obama administration. The conflation of arriving at a port of entry as opposed to illegal border crossings is the media consciously, conspicuously telling half the story.
So it appears that Diane Feinstein’s legislation prohibiting Border Patrol agents from arresting anyone with children within 100 miles of the border and therefor taking a giant leap toward open borders must be off the table. Reportedly all Democrats in the Senate support the bill which would clearly generate more illegals arriving with children, anyone’s children. The Senate Democrats know its theater and that the Feinstein bill would never pass the house or be signed by the President.
What is the evidence for blaming Trump? A Border Patrol agent, Chris Cabrera, was interviewed on CNN and went through some of the horrors he and his colleagues have seen, arguing for a change in the law to solve the situation. What he had to say speaks volumes, in response to recordings of crying children and leading questions Mr. Cabrera had, in part, this to say:
“They’re brought over in extremely dangerous conditions and in extremely dangerous terrain. And all this can be avoided if they just go through the port of entry. There would be no crime committed by them and they wouldn’t get separated.”
“When you see a 12-year-old girl with a Plan B pill or with their — their parents put her on birth control because they know that getting violated is part of a journey, that’s just a terrible way to live.”
“Right now, we have this beacon saying we will leave the light on for you, you come across illegally, and we will let you into the country. And if you guys have seen some of the stuff that we have seen down here, you would understand just how important it is to have a tough stance to divert people from coming here”
“When you see a 4-year-old girl traveling completely alone with just her parents’ phone number written across her shirt, I mean, come on now.”
There is more from Agent Cabrera including unaccompanied children dying of heat stroke, watch the full interview below:
But Senator Schumer wants the issue, not the solution, which has been the case regarding immigration for at least the last 10 years. Senator Schumer wants the irrational uproar to continue. After all, with this dynamic economy, 4.8% 2nd quarter GDP growth forecasted, the job growth and the right track / wrong track numbers favoring President Trump we simply can’t have the media focusing on an American success story with Trump at its center.
Finally the immigration activists need to be reminded that, for the first two years of his presidency, Barack Obama had the legislative majorities to pass immigration reform. He promised to do so during his campaign. President Obama did not want the solution either, just maintenance of the issue.
It’s better, easier, more politically productive to, as Senator Schumer says, “keep the focus on Trump.”
