Obama accomplishes nothing, wins Nobel Prize

As one prominent conservative talk radio giant put it today, President Obama has now become the first post-accomplishment president meaning he will be given accolades and awards while having achieved nothing of substance. Apparently we no longer reward achievement, we now award wishful thinking with no proven results whatsoever. I can’t even believe I got the opportunity to write the headline for this story, it is a bad Saturday Night Live sketch illustrating Obama’s total lack of experience, achievement and reality.

The UK Times Online takes it further:

The award of this year’s Nobel peace prize to President Obama will be met with widespread incredulity, consternation in many capitals and probably deep embarrassment by the President himself.

Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent. It was clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration, approval for the election of America’s first black president and hope that Washington will honour its promise to re-engage with the world.

Instead, the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace.

The pretext for the prize was Mr Obama’s decision to “strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples”. Many people will point out that, while the President has indeed promised to “reset” relations with Russia and offer a fresh start to relations with the Muslim world, there is little so far to show for his fine words.

President Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize is the equivalent of me saying that one day I would like to star in a movie and then being awarded an Oscar for my stated desire, not the actual results.

The Nobel Peace Prize has been a laughing joke to me personally for years now, I’m glad the world can now share in the hilarity. It’s funny that Obama has accepted the award basically as a “call to action” since he has no accomplishments, neither past nor present which deserve any recognition.

Not surprisingly, the general public rather skeptical of the politically motivated decision:

Not a single person knows why he was awarded the Nobel Prize, not even Obama himself. There is nothing to point to which comes remotely close to a reason why he should ever have been nominated let alone won the award. Either way, the last nail in the laughing stock coffin has been put in for the Nobel Prize committee.

I’ll let Rush take it from here since no one can speak it better.
