Or perhaps the President simply forgot that last week he told us all that the sky would indeed fall if the porkulus bill wasn’t passed and immediately signed into law. Apparantly Obama found better things to do this weekend after fear-mongering the country into supporting his liberal spending package.
The New York Post illustrates the absurdity of Obama’s baseless claims about economic catastrphe:
After pushing Congress for weeks to hurry up and pass the massive $787 billion stimulus bill, President Obama promptly took off for a three-day holiday getaway.
Obama arrived at his home in Chicago on Friday, and treated wife Michelle to a Valentine’s Day dinner downtown last night. The couple was spotted leaving upscale Table Fifty-Two, which specializes in Southern cuisine, with the first lady toting what appeared to be a doggie bag.
The president plans to spend the Presidents’ Day weekend in the Windy City, and is not expected to sign the bill until Tuesday, when he travels to Denver to discuss his economic plan.
Both the House and Senate passed the bill Friday night.
The push to get the bill through before the holiday weekend was so frantic, members of Congress didn’t have a chance to read all 1,071 pages of the document before they could vote.
“In a perfect world it would have been nice to have had more time to process it,” said Ilan Kayatsky, a spokesman for Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY).
Here’s Obama telling us about the crisis and compelling congress to act:
Well, unfortunately, they did act and now it’s Obama’s turn at sending our economy down the crapshoot with his socialist spending bill.
However, by waiting until Tuesday, Obama has proven that his words were meaningless when he said it was a catastrophe if we didn’t pass this legislation immediately. Perhaps the point is that this legislation will do nothing for our current economic situation other than saddle us with debt for generations to come.
This Reuters story confirms the fact that now the White House is admitting the stimulus (read spending) bill isn’t going to positively affect our economy in the short term:
WASHINGTON (Reuters)- President Barack Obama’s aides warned Americans on Sunday not to expect instant miracles from the $787 billion economic stimulus bill he will sign this week, but said it would help eventually.
Obama is due to sign the bill passed last week by Congress in Denver on Tuesday. It was the first major legislative victory of his young presidency, which could rise or fall with its success or failure.
“There will be signs of activity very quickly,” David Axelrod, the White House senior adviser, said on “Fox News Sunday.” “But it’s going to take time for that to show up in the statistics. The president has said it’s likely to get worse before it gets better.”
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs used similar language on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
“I don’t think there’s any doubt that we’ve seen this economy has gotten worse just in the last few months. The acceleration in job loss probably means that this economy is going to get worse before it gets better,” he said.
Obama himself said last week that if he failed to heal the economy, he would be out of a job by 2012, when he faces re-election.
So this bill that won’t fix the economic catastrophe unless it’s passed yesterday isn’t going to actually do anything to fix the catastrophe, at least in the short term according to these weasels. Then what is the rush in spending us down the toilet? Only Washington can sell such trash to the American people with a straight face.
Either way, it’s a joke and we’re all now just getting the punchline. Obama can scare people into making irrational decisions like no one else, bravo.
Funny, Obama supporters seem to be at a loss for words in rebutting/supporting the Obama circus.
