Giuliani: Liberal Social Views, Divorces Inconsequential to Presidential Bid

This according to Fox News:

WASHINGTON — Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Thursday dismissed his liberal social views, his divorces and his former aide’s imbroglio as irrelevant to a presidential bid.

Asked about a leaked political strategy memo that cited such issues as potentially insurmountable obstacles to a campaign for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, Giuliani said: “That is not going to be the issue.”

Perhaps this could make a difference for someone whose been under a rock since 9/11 who never new anything about “America’s mayor”.

However, Giuliani handled it quite tactfully I’d say:

“I sure have strengths and weaknesses,” Giuliani said on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “I think that sort of puts me in the same category as just about everybody else that’s running. Are my strengths greater or my weaknesses worse? I don’t know. You have to sort of examine that. That won’t be the issue.”

McCain, well, his issues for conservatives wouldn’t fit in this post. Romney is facing some questions about how truthful his conservative views. I think both Democratic and Republican candidates fear Rudy simply for his popularity. They fear his buzz because he draws across party lines. In many head to head polls he slays Hillary and other top contenders. Fear.

The bottom line is that there really wasn’t anything in the leaked strategy memo that people don’t already know. It made for big news but it’s really nothing. If Giuliani shifted his social positions even just a little he would be a very formidable candidate.
