Brushfires of Freedom

Many of us will gather at the Capital steps on Saturday, once again emerging to perform a citizen’s duty.  We do so in the sure knowledge that our appearance will have little impact on those who will pass health care at any cost and absent conscience.  We go regardless; we go to reinforce the reality that we will not go away quietly!  We deliver the message that we will not forget and that we reject the very basis of the ideas that have led the Congress to this corrupted point in time.

We will go mindful of the admonition from Samuel Adams that perches over my desk: It does not take a majority to prevail … But rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men”.

234 years have come and gone since 1776 and we will reset those brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.  We remind ourselves and, hopefully, others that freedoms not protected will slowly dissolve into a morass of smiley faced slavery; all of our own making.

We will go, knowing that the gathering will be interpreted as a demonstration against health care; it is more than that.  Denigration will arrive at the hands of those that little understand freedom’s jeopardy, blinded by an easy,  shallow ideology devoid of the ability to demonstrate a consistent path of logic. We care little for one dimensional fear inspired rhetoric; we know the truth of it!

We will arrive at the Capital steps over and over again.  We will go regardless of the odds.  We will go until the voices are heard.  We go because we see clearly what our world looks like in the absence of the going. We will go until those who represent us come to share our commitment to set the brushfires of freedom into a raging maelstrom.

Although we may not agree with one another, we all stand by each other’s right to stand at the doorstep of our government and be counted.
