“The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 62% believe tax cuts are a better way to create jobs and fight unemployment. Only 21% believe that additional stimulus spending is a more effective tool. Earlier this year, as the first stimulus package was being debated in Congress, 62% of voters wanted the plan to have more tax cuts and less spending.”

“Given a different choice today, 51% believe canceling the rest of the stimulus money would create more jobs while 32% say spending the money would be the better approach to job creation. These findings are consistent with earlier polling. Most Americans say that, generally speaking, increased government spending is bad for the economy. Earlier this year, before the unemployment rate had reached its current highs, 45% wanted to cancel the rest of the stimulus spending while just 36% disagreed.”

“While voters believe that tax cuts and stopping spending is the path to job creation, the Political Class disagrees. Sixty-nine percent (69%) of those in the Political Class say that spending the stimulus money would create more jobs than canceling the remaining stimulus spending. Fifty-five percent (55%) of the Political Class believes that new spending will create more jobs than tax cuts. Only 13% believe the tax cutting would do more (see more on the Political Class).”

“On both questions, there is also a substantial partisan divide. Democrats are fairly evenly divided on both questions while Republicans overwhelmingly believe that canceling the rest of the stimulus money and cutting taxes are better job creation tools than additional stimulus spending.”

“As for those not affiliated with either major party, just over 50% say that stopping spending and cutting taxes is the best way to create jobs.”

“The survey also found that most voters are skeptical about claims of government job creation. Most (58%) say it’s unlikely that the stimulus plan has saved or created more than 600,000 jobs.”

Those voting to continue are fooling no one informed. Only takes 50 to pass bill. I think we know the one who breaks ties is Biden.

Is inevitable bill will pass if it goes through tonight.

Appears all Republicans are voting against. Siding with majority of citizens, as seen in all the polls I am aware of.

No doubt the face of Congress will change. Ending public health. Hopefully in 2010.

Only taxes will show their evil face upon passing of bill. Plan set to take effect 2013-2015, but rush was necessary. Profile of Congress will not exist long. Obama wants to steal the money.

Great amount of pay-off has got it through…

How appropriate that Dodd is in charge. He could easily be gone next year. He’s up for re-election.

“On page 432 of the Reid bill, there is a section increasing federal Medicaid subsidies for “certain states recovering from a major disaster.”

“The section spends two pages defining which “states” would qualify, saying, among other things, that it would be states that “during the preceding 7 fiscal years” have been declared a “major disaster area.”

“I am told the section applies to exactly one state: Louisiana, the home of moderate Democrat Mary Landrieu, who has been playing hard to get on the health care bill“.

“In other words, the bill spends two pages describing would could be written with a single world: Louisiana. (This may also help explain why the bill is long.)”

“Senator Harry Reid, who drafted the bill, cannot pass it without the support of Louisiana’s Mary Landrieu.”

“How much does it cost? According to the Congressional Budget Office: $100 million.”

I am going to answer JD in depth. Not for his benefit. It’s not a beneficial for him. I have no illusion that he can read with comprehension.

His humor is baseless and knowledge of topic limited to liberal propaganda. Such facts work on CNN shows with 5 minute discussions with friendly commentator. But public has tired of CNN and ratings are falling. Public not falling for stuff JD preaches. While Fox gains to new height.

Liberal radio and television are failing except in a few sections of our land. Not so for Conservative programs.

It may be funny to you JD, though I doubt it. You know the polls don’t back you political views. Unless you are a buffoon.

The public plan is subsidized by private companies meaning their members in taxes against those companies. Doctor prices to public members are forced lower thus private is charged more to make up. Medical supplies are taxed. Medicines companies are taxed. Etc. Get the idea JD.

That premium paid on public plan is just tip of iceberg. A rouges.

Add in all the other taxes that are not taxes and you have massive money, needed to support obama socialist programs. Appearing to raise no taxes on those making less than $250,000. As often as he can tax increases must be indirect, so dummies like yourself will blame evil business for increasing their profit when in fact it is government.

JD writes “how you all can defend healthcare cost raising in the private market but slam it in the public”. Naturally there is no quote. JD, your wording and version of events is purely a figment of your imagination.

Had you bothered to read comments on this site we have discussed how government cause private companies cost to rise. But seriously been done so many times what is use of telling you again. Read for the first time past comments.

“Anxious to avoid raising taxes too much to pay for their health care proposals, the Obama Administration and its Congressional allies hit on a great new idea: Make the states raise their taxes to fund the program instead.”

“Both the House and the Senate bills require that states cover a larger percentage of their people under Medicaid – a joint state and federally funded program. The idea was to force the state to raise their taxes to cover a big part of the health care bill for treating poor people. Since the Feds can simply charge any increase in spending to their already overdrawn bank account, but the states have to balance their budgets, the increased state spending for Medicaid will cause sharp increases in state taxes. And the Governors will get the blame, not Obama and not the Congress.”

“The House bill requires states to give Medicaid to those whose incomes are less than 150% of the poverty level while the Senate requires coverage up to 125%. For most states, this is a hefty increase.”

“In some states, like New York, where Medicaid covers everyone making 150% of the poverty level already, there will not be any extra required spending.”

“But not so in California, which only covers 100% of the poverty level. Were the House bill to pass, the already fiscally beleaguered state would have to increase its Medicaid spending on poor people by 50%, at least an extra $2 billion a year and perhaps more.”

“In many Southern states, the Medicaid program only covers a portion of those living below the poverty level. For these states, the requirement to cover all those in poverty and then 50% more will cause enormous increases in taxes. In Arkansas and Louisiana, where swing Senators Pryor, Lincoln, and Landrieu come from, the cost could exceed $1 billion for each state each year.”

“Unfunded mandates for state spending imposed from on high in Washington have always rankled governors. The Senators and Congressmen in Washington get the credit for spreading largesse but the Governors in the states get the blame for the taxes that are needed to pay for it.”

“Since Democrats currently control the vast majority of governorships, this process of making their own party members take the rap for raising taxes is politically self-destructive in the extreme. But Obama is so desperate to pass his health care legislation that he doesn’t care what havoc in his party he reaps in the process.”

“The question now is whether the governors of the fifty states, particularly the Democrats, are going to sit idly by and let their budgets be destroyed by the health care bill.”

“When the Republicans in Congress insisted on tacking big cuts in aid to legal immigrant benefits for disability and other areas onto the welfare reform bill, it was the Republican governors who forced them to repeal the pernicious cuts the very next year. They did not want to have to raise taxes to make up for the withdrawal of federal funding.”

“Now the Democratic governors face the same situation. If Obamacare passes with its expansion of Medicaid benefits – but with no federal funding of the extra spending – it is these Democrats and their legislatures that will have to bite the bullet and pass new taxes to pay for it.”

“Since states are already facing mammoth financial problems as a result of dwindling revenues and swelling expenditures in the recession, these additional burdens could be politically fatal. Unless Democratic governors want to avoid the fate of one of their late brethren, former Governor Jon Corzine of New Jersey, whose political career was ended in a blaze of new taxes, they might want to call their buddies in Congress and ask them to lay off the unfunded mandates, particularly during this recession.”

“GOP governors, meeting in Texas, agreed. “We all know a sucker play when we see one,” said Mitch Daniels of Indiana. The bill would expand the Medicaid program, which provides health care for the poor, and leave the states with part of the additional cost beginning after three years.”

“Officially, the Congressional Budget Office said the measure would reduce deficits by $130 billion over the next decade with probable small reductions in the 10 years that follow — forecasts that cheered rank-and-file Democrats. The recommendations would go into effect automatically unless Congress blocked them.”
