Palin: Obama “disqualified” from being President

In a post-debate interview today with Carl Cameron from Fox News, Gov. Sarah Palin stated that Sen. Barack Obama is disqualified from being President based on some off his “statements on the war” which she takes issue with.

Here’s the video which is Part 1 of Cameron’s interview:

Report from Political Radar:

ABC News’ Teddy Davis, Rigel Anderson, and Arnab Datta Report: Speaking to Fox News on Friday, Sarah Palin indicated for the first time that she does not consider Barack Obama qualified to be commander in chief and sharply criticized him for saying last year that U.S. troops in Afghanistan are “just air raiding villages and killing civilians.”

Calling Obama “reckless,” Palin said that where she comes from Obama’s remarks “disqualify someone from consideration for the next commander-in-chief.”

“Some of his comments that he’s made about the war, that I think, in my world disqualify someone from consideration for the next commander-in-chief,” said Palin. “Some of the comments he’s made about Afghanistan, what we are doing there, ‘just air raiding villages and killing civilians.’ That’s reckless.”

Palin invoked Obama’s “just air raiding villages and killing civilians” remark during her Fox News interview as an example of the kind of issue that she wanted to be asked about by Katie Couric, the CBS News anchor who recently stumped the Alaska governor by asking her to name a Supreme Court case other than Roe v. Wade with which she disagrees.

The Alaska governor first brought up her objection to Obama’s comments at Thursday’s debate.

“That’s not what we’re doing there,” said Palin, referring to Afghanistan. “We’re fighting terrorists, and we’re securing democracy, and we’re building schools for children there so that there is opportunity in that country.”

Obama made his controversial remarks while campaigning in New Hampshire on Aug. 13, 2007. His comments came when he was asked how he would refocus U.S. troops out of Iraq to better fight terrorism.

Video of Obama’s remarks she’s speaking of:

Clearly Palin is taking a more active role in the campaign following the debate. Perhaps, and this is just a possibility, the McCain campaign has “unleashed” her of sorts to become the attacker for the campaign and take these statements to the press since McCain seems unable to.

  • Bruce

LOL, Palin trying to suggest that ANYONE is unqualified for a High office Let Alone Obama for Pres. is like a pot calling the kettle black. Biden proved last night who is clearly ready for the job and who is not. And If she “did a great job at the debate” as the McCain camp would say, let her speak for herself! Oh wait She CANT. *wink, Dog gone!

  • “Biden proved last night who is clearly ready for the job and who is not.” Really Bruce, so what’s the story behind Joe telling lie, after lie, after lie during the debate?

Anytime this man opens his mouth he gets himself in trouble. I think you need watch the debate again and then look at some of these statements and do your own homework, not just take someone else’s talking points as your own. The man is a lawyer, he attended Syracuse, now I know for a fact that they study the Constitution at this school, many of my own law professor’s attended Syracuse law, including my Constitutional law professor. What shocks me is he misrepresented the constitution over the issue of the Vice Presidency in the US Senate. Biden made a statment saying that Dick Cheney took it upon himself to craft his own role and had too much power in the US Senate. Newsflash Joe, Article 1 of the constitution spells out the Vice President’s role in he US Senate:

“Clause 4: Vice President as President of Senate; Voting Power”

This wasn’t just a slip of the tongue, this was a steamrolling of the constitution. The sad part is that most Americans are so unfamiliar with their constitution that they rely on legal scholars like Joe Biden, and the community organizer turned law school adjunct, with their infinitely wrong wisdom to fill them in. Biden should know better considering he’s chairman of the Judiciary Committee and a lawyer! Please Senator Biden, crack open the law books again and stop misinforming the public who, if they listened to you, is now less intelligent if they try to repeat your statement.

Then again, I shouldn’t be surprised this is coming from a man so inept he had to lift material from another student’s Law Review article and say it was his own. Boy, a real winner we got here. Sarah could have not shown up and Biden still would have lost to himself.

    Conservative Gal

How will you clean up the tears when Obama/Biden wins in November? Burns your rear to see the polls continue to lean toward Obama. You have no idea who has done their homework about the candidates. You need to follow your own advice and lose the biased view long enough to learn the truth.

  • Just Another Conservative

Newsflash, didn’t the polls show in both the 2004 and 2000 election that the democratic nominee had higher numbers then too? Honestly, I don’t believe the polls can show you too much information, it all depends on the people who have been polled which can always skew any data you come up with.

Also, what did Conservative Gal say when she gave ‘advice’? She didn’t give any advice, just valid information about a subject she was very well versed in. Unless you could have provided any evidence to prove her wrong, I do believe she is entitled to say that she did say the truth and that you should have take YOUR own advice and ‘lose the biased view long enough to learn the truth’. When you criticize someone else for being biased, you might want to show a little indifference yourself.

As for me, I’m completely biased and will openly admit to being so. The truth can always be manipulated by your interpretation of any information given to you, it’s up to you to decide how to interpret it.

  • AB

I couldn’t agree more with you U.S.A. The US needs a president that can bring prosperity to the economy and repair international relations, not one that is George Bush’s clone. And why do i get the feeling the admins here are kind of biased in there reporting, and right wingers rather than neutrals?

  • Quoting U.S.A.: “You need to follow your own advice and lose the biased view long enough to learn the truth.”

I couldn’t laugh harder reading a devout Obama supporter telling me to “learn the truth” if I tried. How about you open your constitution and see the truth? If you need a copy of the constitution, I’ll gladly send you one. Then again, you’re incapable of arguing on merit, aren’t you? When you reach 11th grade U.S. History, let me know.

This is the big leagues, dear, the “learn the truth” line won’t work in your Poli Sci class either when debating a substantive issue.

ahhh.. *leaning back in my chair* Check, and mate.

Call Palin what you will, we’ve heard it all before. I love the fact that we get into these Palin vs Obama debates…she’s our #2. Regardless, the fact remains that Obama has shown extremely poor judgement across the board especially when it comes to those he associates with. He is a manchild that is easily influenced and has been programmed by and is being controlled by Chicago ultra-liberals. Just Google Bettylu Saltzman…

    Great Posts!

When I went thru the debate transcript, I counted 14 times that Biden outright lied and I wasn`t half way thru it yet. He lied, lied again, and lied some more. In fact, he lied throughout the debate. And there were also many times when he tried to praise BO on something. And then Palin would rip him, pointing out how he had said just the opposite in the primaries and before becoming BO`s VP pick!

I get in to much more detail in a different thread on how/why Palin clobbered Biden in this debate!

And like you say, it`s sad that most of the American people don`t research these things enough to recognize all Biden`s lies and the several gaffes he also made during the debate. If they did, there`s no way roughly 50% would think he won the debate – unless they really are Obamatized!

  • Christopher Schwinger

Anyone who associates with the United Nations should be disqualified from being President, which would include Palin as well as Obama. The supreme law of the land, the Constitution, doesn’t license America’s leaders to be part of international bodies.

  • “2. Regardless, the fact remains that Obama has shown extremely poor judgement across the board especially when it comes to those he associates with.”

If we are going to talk about associations both Obama and McCain are disqualified. what did he say in the debate? He is good friends with Henry Kissinger for 35 years!!

You have to take this association crap off of the table both of them have bad ones.

“He is a manchild that is easily influenced and has been programmed by and is being controlled by Chicago ultra-liberals”

Well if that was true it is of the past now. YOu know he called Chicago and made the State Legislature actually change their position on a vote due to his call and influence. He is a lot more dangerous now then a puppet. Just like people who work their way to the top in anything else. They are a yes man in the beginning but once they get to the top and learn the ropes you won’t see any of traits of the follower of the past.

Which is why everyone will pay dearly for sticking up for Bush and his admin and all the violations of our civil liberties and constitution. Everyone who feels that being a Republican means you have to accept anything that the neo cons do and disagree with anything a Democrat says with out reason will be sorry because Bush will be handing the most powerful tools that any president has ever had in history to the next president. And he will have war criminal Nancy Pelosi in his corner with the biggest party majority of both houses backing him up.
All the crying you people do who are scared of Obama. Well what ever goes around comes around. If they would have stood up to Bush and all the things he’s done instead of claiming that he needed to strip away our rights in the name of freedom, and ignore all allies in the name of the usa we wouldn’t have to worry about what Obama can or will do with all of that power.

  • C.S.

“Anyone who associates with the United Nations should be disqualified from being President, which would include Palin as well as Obama. The supreme law of the land, the Constitution, doesn’t license America’s leaders to be part of international bodies. ”

Hey you hear what McCain is proposing? He wants to start a NEW one called the “League of Democracies”. And just guess what their agenda will probably be? Forcing more democracy on other countries most likely. The liberal democratic suggested policies of the 1940’s will be in full swing with the neocons.

  • Christopher Schwinger

How anybody like that can be considered acceptable beats me, Dreadsen.

  • SueP

Biden might have miss-spoken a couple of times (only FOX makes an exaggerated claim otherwise) but Palin spouted lies and massive distortions, openly and repeatedly, with a jaunty wink and a smile! And the galling thing is that she didn’t even care that she was repeating lies that have been fact-checked and proven false over and over again. She didn’t care. She’s so cute, gosh darn it, nobody will care if she fudges the facts?

I suspect that Governor Sarah (speaking for her handlers) keeps lying to the American people because that’s the McCain/Palin substitute for having no forward-going plan to help this country at all. McCain and Palin know they are the candidates of Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and yes, GW Bush. In order to try to distract the voters from this, they’ve hurled every slimy false attack, every whispering campaign, and every unimportant sideshow they can, with certain news outlets as their allies.

That’s exactly why we need to elect Barack Obama: He’s the only candidate with the brains, guts and temperament to get this country back on track, plus electing Obama is an opportunity to rescue America from the Radical Right, to show the neocons — once and for all — that AMERICA ISN’T AS STUPID AS THEY THINK IT IS, AND THEY CANNOT STEAL ANOTHER ELECTION WITH SMEARS, VOTER SUPPRESSION, OIL MONEY AND PROPAGANDA. The middle class has suffered enough from eight years of GW Bush’s puppet presidencies. How could we possibly sign up for more of the same under John McCain?

I agree with Sarah Palin that America must once again be the country that is that “shining light” to other nations. That’s why I’ve decided to vote Obama/Biden.

  • JD

Has anyone noticed, that Stalin, O_S, Conservative Gal, Jim819, have been re-energized since the debate!

GOOOOO Palin Power!!! She did her job of pumping the Republicans back up.

Both candidates were practically equal. Maybe we should let the readers on here read and think for themselves instead of listening the Republican Brat pack make thier claims on here.

Number of untrue and partially untrue comments made during the debate.

    Biden = 6 Palin = 5

    1. Palin mistakenly claimed that troop levels in Iraq had returned to “pre-surge” levels. Levels are gradually coming down but current plans would have levels higher than pre-surge numbers through early next year, at least.

    2. Palin repeated a false claim that Obama once voted in favor of higher taxes on “families” making as little as $42,000 a year. He did not. The budget bill in question called for an increase only on singles making that amount, but a family of four would not have been affected unless they made at least $90,000 a year.

    1. Biden wrongly claimed that McCain “voted the exact same way” as Obama on the budget bill that contained an increase on singles making as little as $42,000 a year. McCain voted against it. Biden was referring to an amendment that didn’t address taxes at that income level.
Palin claimed McCain’s health care plan would be “budget neutral,” costing the government nothing. Independent budget experts estimate McCain’s plan would cost tens of billions each year, though details are too fuzzy to allow for exact estimates.

    2. Biden wrongly claimed that McCain had said “he wouldn’t even sit down” with the government of Spain. Actually, McCain didn’t reject a meeting, but simply refused to commit himself one way or the other during an interview.

    3. Palin wrongly claimed that “millions of small businesses” would see tax increases under Obama’s tax proposals. At most, several hundred thousand business owners would see increases.

    4. Palin said, “We’re circulating about $700 billion a year into foreign countries” for imported oil, repeating an outdated figure often used by McCain. At oil prices current as of Sept. 30, imports are running at a rate of about $493 billion per year.

    3. Biden claimed that McCain said in a magazine article that he wanted to deregulate the health care industry as the banking industry had been. That’s taking McCain’s words out of context. As we’ve said before, he was talking specifically about his proposal to allow the sale of health insurance across state lines.

    4. Biden said five times that McCain’s tax plan would give oil companies a “$4 billion tax cut.” As we’ve noted previously, McCain’s plan would cut the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 25 percent — for ALL corporations, not just oil companies. Biden uses a Democratic think tank’s estimate for what the rate change is worth to the five largest U.S. oil companies.

    5. Palin threw out an old canard when she criticized Obama for voting for the 2005 energy bill and said, “that’s what gave those oil companies those big tax breaks.” It’s a false attack Sen. Hillary Clinton used against Obama in the primary, and McCain himself has hurled. It’s true that the bill gave some tax breaks to oil companies, but it also took away others. And according to the Congressional Research Service, the bill created a slight net increase in taxes for the oil industry.

    5. Biden said that Iraq had an “$80 billion surplus.” The country was once projected to have as much as a $79 billion surplus, but no more. The Iraqis have $29 billion in the bank, and could have $47 billion to $59 billion by the end of the year, as we noted when Obama used the incorrect figure. A $21 billion supplemental spending bill, passed by the Iraqi legislature in August, knocked down the old projection.

    6. Biden said four times that McCain had voted 20 times against funding alternative energy. However, in analyzing the Obama campaign’s list of votes after the first presidential debate, we found the number was actually 11. In the other instances the Obama-Biden campaign cites, McCain voted not against alternative energy but against mandatory use of alternative energy, or he voted in favor of allowing exemptions from these mandates.

  • Babs

Dreadsen, if we want to throw out guilt by association then Obama has to throw out his main campaign strategy – the Bush/McCain one. Think about it. McCain is no good because he’s a republican, and so is George Bush. Not much of an association there, but nonetheless, it’s the MAIN strategy of Obama and all his minions.

Until Obama chooses to drop the association between Bush and McCain, McCain and all of his minions will be throwing associates at Obama all day long every day until the election. We’ll see how many sticks.

  • Maverick.

This is not a comment. I just wanted to say ‘maverick’ for the hell of it.

  • Radio Head

I laughed out loud at the post at 12:43 claiming a count of 14 Biden lies in just the first part of debate. Somehow there was no time for the commmenter to actually cite, quote, summarize or even mention the topic of ANY “lie.” Hint: When accusing someone of lying, it’s not enough to just huff and puff that they lied! You might be, you know, lying yourself. Also. You betcha.

  • Dreadsen

    Your comparing apples and spinach.
There is a different from being someone’s fathers, neighbors, sister in-laws roomate logic.

There is a card that gun owners hand out as a warning for gun owners. Everything on the list is from the Democratic platform and not necessarily his. But it is fair game because he IS a democrat. What they don’t know is Obama’s real voting record on gun laws is worse than the democratic platform. So they really didn’t do their investigation.
It’s all about just how far you are going to reach when trying to connect the dots.

McCain has a voting record which is along the lines of George Bush. And they are of the same party. Plus there are tons of photos of McCain and bush hugging on each other. McCain campaigned for Bush bragged about helping him, voted for him twice and defends his policies to this day. That is not Guilt by association. And this has been done for y e a r s in political campaigns because usually the candidate supports the party.

Now McCain has probably had some involvement with the senator who was toe tapping in the restrooms. If we tried to make the case that since McCain is of the same party of this guy and they actually voted the same way on a bill or were on the same board. This means McCain must be an in the closet gay guy who supports toe tapping in airport restrooms. That is when you are stretching it beyond logic. There isn’t even enough evidence here to warrant the media questioning him about such non sense. This long reach beyond reason attempt at some sort of defacto guilt by association is new. If YOU honestly feel this is the same then i guess it would be fair to investigate that and start running ads with photos of airport restrooms and the toe tapping senator.

  • Christopher Schwinger

Babs, I am trying to fathom why you like McCain. How many statements does he have to make about wanting to be a dictator, wanting to merge the North American countries, and wanting to bomb Iran for you to see that he doesn’t represent the American people or respect the Constitution?

  • Jim819

This is from a different FactCheck which is not possibly in the tank for BO like the Anneberg FactCheck.Org may be! – more about this later.

Here’s the current list of outright errors and lies which flowed from the lips of Biden:

    1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.

    2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

    3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”

    4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.

    5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.

    6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.

    7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people’s health insurance coverage — they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false

    8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska — she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it’s not a windfall profits tax.

    9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.

    10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation — he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.

    11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where John McCain has been proven right.

    12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.

    13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”

    14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won’t pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

Quite a list there, isn’t it?

  • Dreadsen

Funny i don’t see your list of McCAin or Palin’s fact check.

Dude it has been proven that Both of them are lying. For you to present the fact check of one side and not the other doesn’t prove anything.

You all kill me. Both of them told some untruths but only one guy is a liar LOL!

Care to give us the link where this came from? You feel that is in the tank for Obama yet you provide info from some alleged unbias factcheck which has on factcheck on McCain’s camp LOL!! So if they are in the tank for McCain then they are not bias and we should rely on this info?

This is like the Liberal who says MSNBC is fair and balanced! LOL!

  • Pondering It All

Just wait. They have not debated yet on their health care plans. McCain’s plan is to tax employer contributions for health insurance, and then give us a $5000 tax credit to buy our own individual policies. The result would be that employers would drop their group coverage.

This is the dream of the insurance companies, because they can refuse to insure anyone applying for an individual policy (or charge you a million dollars) or drop any such policy as soon as you get sick. Then they even put you on a black list so NOBODY will insure you. Millions of Americans with chronic conditions, sick children, or even just a relative with some illness would be locked out of the health insurance system. Your choice will be to bankrupt your family or just to go home and die quietly if you ever get sick.

Of course, John McCain has always had health care coverage courtesy of the US Govenrment. (And now he’s rich enough to pay for anything he needs, but he still gets free care because of his Senate seat.) So it’s nothing to him if millions of us die because we are shut out of the system!

Wait and see: This one issue will give Obama a massive electoral win.

  • Babs

“Of course, John McCain has always had health care coverage courtesy of the US Govenrment. (And now he’s rich enough to pay for anything he needs, but he still gets free care because of his Senate seat.) So it’s nothing to him if millions of us die because we are shut out of the system!”

    So are Obama and Biden.

“This is the dream of the insurance companies, because they can refuse to insure anyone applying for an individual policy (or charge you a million dollars) or drop any such policy as soon as you get sick. Then they even put you on a black list so NOBODY will insure you.”

Where have you been? This has been happening already for decades. Health care is not a new campaign issue, it’s been around several cycles, back to Reagan at least. Neither candidate will get a “massive electoral win” off this subject.

CS, your ranting is just beyond me anymore. I give up on you and give you to Ron Paul, or whoever it is you’re supporting this week.

  • Jim819

“Dude it has been proven that Both of them are lying.”

It`s also been proven that Biden lies much more frequently than Palin! Btw, that`s not even a complete list of Biden`s lies.

“For you to present the fact check of one side and not the other doesn’t prove anything.”

Wrong. It proves that the side I prfovided a factCheck on is lying over and over. It`s up to you to come up with the other side – if you can! But you won`t because Biden clearly lied so often that Palin could never match it.

“You all kill me. Both of them told some untruths but only one guy is a liar LOL!”

Don`t die just yet! We all know Palin lied too but, if we`re all honest, not nearly as often as Biden lied.

“This is like the Liberal who says MSNBC is fair and balanced!”

No it`s not! That you won`t or can`t see the difference is disturbing!

  • Babs

Pondering it all, if you’d like to see McCain’s health care plan and the ways Obama has twisted it, you can find it here.

This is an addendum page to his policy page. Seems McCain is making sure the Obama smears are also answered on his own website. Good for him.

  • Penner

I think it is wise to recognize that they are ALL politicians and will all lie.

It comes down to selecting who you think best represents your interests.

And while I know we’re all proud of Sarah Palin for catching those moments of Biden’s, I think that is a far call from actually answering a question with more than a generic “fight terrorism”, “promote democracy”, and “build schools” answer. She doesn’t seem to have any specific ideas on any specific topic.

If you visit some fact-checking websites as well, you’ll see that they both lied. Nice and consistently.

  • IndiMinded

Truly, Jim, your intellect is dizzying.

  • Jim819

  • Jim819

Will you give us this site where you are getting the flawless factcheck from? So we can take a look at it for ourselves. We need to know you aren’t making this stuff up to prove your case. Or didn’t get your fact check from Hannity’s America. Then we can compare and see who lied the most since this is what makes you happy.

Just listen to yourself man. Both people lied but your candidate told 10 lies while the other person told 15 lies so you are pointing the finger. That’s one difference between you and I. I am realistic and just accept both of them lied. You have to find a way to still come out winning when you are too blind to see that on this argument everyone is a loser. But you won’t accept losing at any cost. If this was about rape you would be happy that your guy raped 3 kids but the opponent raped 10. Both are disgusting. But not in your eyes.

Indiminded is right. Your intellect is dizzying.

  • Babs

At least three of the fact checking sites are being debunked. I saw today where they compared the same statements “fact checked” by 3 different “fact checkers” – one said true, one said false, and one said mostly true on the same statement over and over. The three were factcheck, politifact, and the washington post fact check – the same three that are quoted as “fact” here all the time. Time to throw out the fact checkers, folks. Let them fact check each other. 😉

  • Yeah, a lot of these fact-checking sites are a load of BS if you ask me.
