“Obama and Friends,” a bad sitcom for America

Lost in the streaming news of the Economic Crisis last week was a bit of a boxing match in Missouri. It seems that the “Obama Truth Squad” hit town to protect innocent Missourians from free speech.

This “Truth Squad” isn’t new. According to MSNBC, Obama aimed the South Carolina Truth Squad at Bill Clinton in January of this year for what he claimed was “incredible distortions” about his war record and comments against Republicans.

He again made the headlines in Missouri on channel 4 – kmov TV on September 23rd, 2008.

There was an immediate outcry about using law enforcement to suppress free speech and thinking, but it was somehow lost in the media to the Bail-out. It seems a couple of Democrats stepped up and said that saying things that weren’t nice about Obama violated the Missouri Ethics codes.

The Governor of Missouri, Matt Blount, didn’t take too kindly to the statements by his officials or the publicity they had generated. He released a statement on the Missouri state website as follows:

Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts – not a free society.”

There seems to be quite a few tactics coming from the Obama campaign recently that are reminiscent of his days as a community organizer, and more closely to his belief in the principals of Saul Alinsky. One could argue that he implements the Alinsky principals quite well, and is – even as we speak – doing it quite successfully in states like Ohio.

As noted in Wikipedia and many various other resources, Alinsky’s teachings influenced Obama in his early career as a community organizer on the south side of Chicago. Working for Gerald Kellman’s Developing Communities Project, Obama learned and taught Alinsky’s methods for community organizing. Let’s look at a few of those methods.

Saul Alinsky was the author of “Rules for Radicals”, the Bible of community organizers. In the epigraph of this famous book, Alinsky writes:

“Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins — or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom – Lucifer.”

Now, let’s highlight a few of Alinsky’s rules.

From Alinsky – “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. In conflict tactics there are certain rules that the organizer should always regard as universalities. One is that the opposition must be singled out as the target and “frozen.”” Application of this rule by Obama? “John McCain is George Bush”. Back up theory for this? Alinsky – “If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside.”

From Alinsky – “The fourth rule carries within it the fifth rule: Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage.” Obama’s application of this rule?

Yes, that one got the ridicule rule AND the freeze rule, a real twofer.

Alinsky – “In the world of give and take, tactics is the art of how to take and how to give. Hee our concern is with the tactic of taking; how the Have-Nots can take power away from the Haves.” And “Power goes to two poles: to those who’ve got money and those who’ve got people.”

Enter Obama’s tax plan. Take from the rich and give it to the poor.

These are only a few examples of what a wonderful student Barrack Obama has been. Now let’s look at how appreciative he is of his education in community organizing. He gives back, no doubt.

From Ken Blackwell on September 29th:

“As negotiations over Congress’s emergency rescue bill continued over the weekend, repeated rumors leaked out that the Democrats were trying to funnel money to a hyper-partisan organization involved in criminal voter fraud. I’m speaking of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now — known by its acronym, ACORN. Although ACORN was cut from the final legislation, it’s important to understand this organization and its long history with, of all people, Barack Obama….What deserves closer scrutiny is Barack Obama’s history with ACORN. Obama cites Saul Alinsky, a self-acknowledged radical who advocated extreme acts to achieve social goals, as one of his inspirations. ACORN follows the Saul Alinsky model. After Obama graduated from Harvard, he went to work for ACORN in Chicago. Mr. Obama then became a trainer for ACORN, teaching others how to employ ACORN tactics in voter registration drives.”

Voter registration drives, you know, like the one being spearheaded by the Obama campaign in Ohio right now – another method of Saul Alinsky implemented by Obama. As we all now know, ACORN has faced charges for voter fraud and tampering more than once.
Two years ago we heard many people asking “Who is Barack Obama?” But then the media fell in love with him, and we never really learned, did we?

    Babs,

Nice piece. I’m glad that someone finally brought up Obama’s love affair with Alinsky. Unfortunately, I bet that over 95% of Obama’s voters don’t know who Saul Alinsky is…maybe if they did, they would take a second look at the socialist they are trying to elect.

  • Babs

That’s why we need to educate them, Stalin. ACORN is all over the news this morning concerning voter fraud in 6 states where they’ve been prosecuted. There are three areas of connection between ACORN and Barack Obama, and William Ayers ties into the picture as well. These are things voters should know when deciding who they feel safe with in a President.

  • pjgal2000

Wow! Great article. Thanks for all the good info. I wish America could be clued in on some of this. If you don’t watch Fox news, you do not see the truth in this election. Journalism as we have known it is truly dead. Thanks again for sharing. pjgal2000

What’s interesting is that of all the liberal arguments that go on here, not even JD has stepped up to refute any of these facts.

  • Rich

…and now they’re turning away Poll observers who obvisouly reveal that these are mostly democrats being bused by ACORN-like groups.

    Babs,

I’ve noticed that many of the libs have turned to bashing in recent weeks. I haven’t have a spirited debate in quite some time. Nobody wants to hear the truth about Obama. I’m bloody surrounded by them here on the northside of Chicago. The few McCain signs that have been staked in front lawns have been vandilized overnight.

  • This is a little off topic, but I am quite dismayed to find so many people buying, hook-line-and sinker, that “socialism” is a bad term. There has been a lot of propaganda about it ever since the dawning of the Cold War, but we are intelligent people and I hope we can try to dissect the images from the actual information at hand.

Socialism is not a terrible idea, nor an “amazing” idea. Just like its economic cousin, capitalism, there are benefits and disadvantages when implementing it. The United States has benefited from intermingling different economic processes and, hopefully, will continue to do so.

If we are going to attack a person’s ideas or platform, i would hope we could find better words than “socialist,” “liberal” or “conservative.” To do otherwise would simply continue to perpetuate false stereotypes.

    Michael

Government controlled and coerced redistribution of wealth is a terrible idea.

    Babs

Thanks for the very informative article.

  • Outstanding article Babs! Hannity’s America had a profoundly eye opening 1 hr segment tonight on “Obama’s Friends”, I can honestly tell you I was horrified.

Michael I ask you then to please enlighten us as to what countries socialism is working in? Do tell. By the way I am preparing my rebuttal in advance as I know you will be citing the issue suspects.

  • Babs

Michael, let me give you the southern answer to that.

In the south, we’re socialable people. We like backyard bar-b-ques and county fairs. We like Sunday homecoming, dinner on the gound, and family reunions; ball games on friday nights, and short track racing on saturday nights, church on Sunday morning. Yeah, we’re awfully socialable people down here.

We believe what we do with our paycheck is our business. We believe that we don’t need to apologize for going to church on Sunday morning, and carrying that faith into school and work on Monday morning. We believe in having a flagpole in our front yard and waving the American flag from it any time we please. We believe if you’re not for America – you’re against it. We believe in the words on the dollar bills we spend – “In God We Trust”. We believe the Government is for the people and by the people – not over the people and against the people.

We are as educated as any other part of America, and we’re smart enough to know there’s a big difference in being socialable and being socialistic. Being socialable is a good thing, being socialistic is on the pathway to being communists. And communism ain’t no good thing, my friend.

Hannity did a good job last night, CG and Stalin, and I hope there’s much more of this to come. I still find it hilarious that Obama’s whining about the guilt by association game. He was the first to play – it’s been his major campaign strategy. McCain equals Bush. McCain is another four years of Bush. More of the same, McSame, etc. Nothing sticks, but he sure likes to sling it. Best he prepare himself, if he can’t take it, he shouldn’t have dished it out.

Stalin, I’m watching my yard signs like a hawk, I have two driveways, and there’s one on each of them. As soon as one goes missing or is vandalized, I’m on the 6:00 news. 😉 On a side note, I’ve said before that Obama pulled his headquarters out of the main city near where I live. You should see it – a now abandoned 2 story building in the middle of town, an eye sore with a huge homemade sign reading “Obama-Biden ’08 – History in the Making”. Yard signs strewn all over the now grown up lawn. I’m thinking of taking pictures and sending them to Fox with a note – “Obama’s campaign history, but a whole lot of trash left behind”.

  • Babs

By the way, this video should have been included in the commentary, I just didn’t have it at the time. The interesting thing to note here is the marque scrolling across the bottom. Hillary started this, and after she did, she began to win.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxRi4gfupi8

Also interesting to note is the timeline in this video, notice the pulling together of dates – at the time that Ayers and Obama was serving on this board together, the Chicago Magazine came out with Ayers standing on a crumpled American flag. Do you think Obama just never saw that magazine? He missed a prime opportunity to distance himself from Ayers then, but like with Rev. WRight, he just didn’t do it.

  • Babs

This is a rather interesting interview with Obama today, and looks like this may be the appropriate thread to put it in, from the imbed reporter with Obama:

““I cannot imagine anything more important to talk about than the economic crisis and the notion that we’d want to brush that aside and engage in the usual political shenanigans and scare tactics that have come to characterize too many political campaigns, I think is not what the American people are looking for,” he continued.

While Obama pledged to continue to talk about the economy on the campaign trail, he did not explain why his campaign decided to participate in “the usual political shenanigans” by launching a website focused on his rival’s connections to Charles Keating.

Obama ignored two questions about why his campaign brought up the Keating Five.”

PS – I really do know how to special sociable. *ROFL*

  • KoKoMo

Do not believe the polls ladies and gentlemen. The fix is in. O’Charlatan and his truth squads are intimidating voters and suppressing free speech. The man from Galilee via Southside Chicago isn’t as popular as many of the media outlets are letting on, so do not be discouraged, GET THE WORD OUT TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW! The silent majority has rejected O’Charlatans message of false hope.

  • “Hannity did a good job last night, CG and Stalin, and I hope there’s much more of this to come. ”

Yeah and Keith Olberman did a good job here too linking all of Sarah Palin and McCain’s associations. and yes i to also hope to see more of this to come.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YybdkSi_gI0

By the way good job on the article Babs.

  • Babs

Yeah, I heard Keith Olberman’s rantings on the Huff site while I was looking for evidence of a Wright book that you had mentioned earlier. Do people still even listen to olberman? He should get back on his meds, for real.

I saw this one for the first time this morning, I don’t usually miss these, but this one is about “Troopergate”. McCain and Palin are naming names, and they’re all Obama supporters. *L*

More news out on ACORN today from the AP:

LAS VEGAS — Nevada state authorities are raiding the Las Vegas headquarters of an organization that works to get low-income people to vote.

“A Nevada secretary of state’s office spokesman said Tuesday that investigators are looking for evidence of voter fraud at the office of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also called ACORN.

No one was at the ACORN office when state agents arrived with a search warrant and began carting records and documents away.

Secretary of State spokesman Bob Walsh says ACORN is accused of submitting multiple voter registrations with false and duplicate names.

The raid comes two months after state and federal authorities formed a task force to pursue election-fraud allegations in Nevada.”

  • Nikkip

This piece has absolutely no factual information. it’s all opinion. You can’t just say something and make it a fact. Blunt is reaching Orwellian levels of denial and deception here. He’s disgusting.

  • Tyrone Morrison

ACORN is so incredibly fraudulent it blows my mind. Did you hear that they tried to register voters in Nevada using the lineup of the Dallas Cowboys? I wasn’t aware Tony Romo and Terrell Owens lived in Vegas! Three cheers for Gov. Blunt for standing up to these scheming thugs, who will stop at nothing to acheieve their goal of electing a liberal, no matter what office he or she is seeking. ACORN is a stain on democracy and must be stopped.

  • IndiMinded

Babs, how do the two rules you brought up distinguish themselves from eachother? Freeze the opposition and ridicule the opposition? I mean, the example you used, comparing McCain to George Bush, is an example of ridicule, but almost always, ridicule is intended to reduce your opponents appeal, or “freeze” them. So I’m just not sure what the difference is.

By the same token, hasn’t McCain used these tactics as fiercely, if not moreso, than Obama? I may not have an in depth understanding of Alinsky, so this is an honest question. But from what you’ve written here, it seems like it to me.

  • mtfx54

Before incriminating Obama spreading the Socialist creed, one should ask: Who is the real Alinski? Well…a promoter of Democracy and social justice to throw a couple descriptors out there. Mr. Alinski tried to promote mass action, mass action which would cause once again cause the Government to fear the people, rather than the other way around. Alinski, along with Obama, see the rich refusing to help the poor as a social injustice. You cannot attack Obama on his anonymity when your main point of attack (Alinski) is cited relatively anonymously.

  • Jalama

$4 Billion for Acorn. How much pork does that put into each one of these Anti American leeches? The I’m so worthless that I have to get money from the government to survive” crowd has got a major shot in the arm. Can’t wait to see them crawling up the walls when this money runs out. Better put a whole new wing on all the jail facilities with the stimilus money to get ready for these addicts.
