Following the sad news that Meet the Press host Tim Russert passed away earlier today at age 58, both Barack Obama and John McCain said many kind words in praise of his work and his objectivity in the world of political news.
Video report from the Associated Press:
The report on his death from NBC News:
Tim Russert was certainly a fine journalist and one of the hardest working interviewers in Washington. I always enjoyed watching his Meet the Press interviews as they were thorough and probing. It’s quite shocking to hear this news.

While I did’t agree with Tim Russert politcally, I did appreciate his hard hitting interviewing skills. I feel for his family. I’ve heard he was a wonderful father. So sad.
Tim Russet had a tremendous amount of class, charisma, and a down to earth mentality. I feel a great deal of sadness over Tim’s death. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Rush Limbaugh Statement on Tim Russert’s Death: “It’s just a shame. Tim was a regular guy with that perpetual smile he wore naturally all the time. He loved life and got everything he could out of it. Whether it was at dinner here in Florida while his son was taking golf lessons, or on the set of Meet The Press, Tim was always the same with me: genuine. He never condescended to anyone and was the consummate professional. He will be hard to replace. He was the closest thing there was at any of the networks to an objective journalist.“
I loved how he was so fair and was such a straight-talker. I think Rush is right that “He was the closest thing there was at any of the networks to an objective journalist.“
Man, I am floored. And right before Father’s Day. At a loss for words.
God bless you Tim.
A big loss, Russert was one of my favorites, too. Best regards and sympathies to his family. Interesting that Rush Limbaugh would say that, but it’s damn true.
On another note, I truly hope that NBC will be prudent in finding a replacement, I’m sure that it will be a difficult decision to make, there aren’t many journalists like that anymore.
I did not have the same views as Tim, but I always did and always will have the upmost respect for this man. Never was he unbalanced in his questions, to any person he had on his show. God Bless Him and may God Watch over his whole family and all his friends, he was a truly remarkable and inspirational man.
