Hmmm…if Obama loses SD it would be a pretty embarrassing way to end primary season. And if he ends up with Hilldawg (the supposed “establishment candidate”) on the ticket it would undermine his whole “change” platform.
It sure will.
And i think the new problem will be if Obama supporters feel like Hillary’s supporters are bullying him or twisting his arm to put her on the ticket. First it’s “we don’t like him or we hate him” Then it’s ” well you better do what we say or else”
I don’t think that will happen–a lot of Hillary supporters don’t even WANT her on an Obama ticket.
I agree with the first comment. It is a sad thing to see the Democratic nominee losing a state coming into the general election. And I also agree that placing Hilary as the VP would undermine his platform.
I do have faith though that regardless of those issues, Obama, like Kennedy and Clinton before him will win over Americans with his charisma, charm and wit and that the rest of the Democrats will definitely choose Obama over McCain, who, with all due respect, looks like he’s nearing his death bed
Ahmed remember Kennedy had to take on a V.P. he didn’t like!
Obama and Hillary will not team up, Obama does not necesarily need Hillary Clinton to win the white house, with his charisma he can attract her constituency. Obama congratulation you have 5 months to win the white house.
Good luck body, god is with you.
That’s right, Dreadsen. He also won by the smallest margin of popular vote in American History.
Charisma, charm and wit are all fine and good, but frankness, experience, and a proven record will be the winning strategy for McCain.
Ahmed, with all due respect, if McCain appears to be nearing his death bed to you, does Obama not look like he’s suffering from anorexia? Come on, cheap shots like that are not productive.
Clinton’s administration was successful because he was able to govern from the center. Obama is far too left to be a Kennedy or a Clinton. People are too busy being swayed by charm and charisma to realize what they’re voting for (UN Global Poverty bill?).
Although people talk about Obama as a “uniter,” McCain actually has the proven record of being able to work across party lines.
And to quote Reagan about the age issue, “I will not make age an issue in this campaign. I will not use my opponent’s youth and inexperience to my political advantage.”
Tina, I think you’ve touched on the problem Obama will have converting Hillary supporters to his side. Clinton was more from the center, as is Hillary. If her supporters voted for her because of the issues, and not her gender, they will have a hard time swinging over to Obama, who is reportedly the most liberal Senator on the Hill.
McCain is admittedly not neoconservative, whether or not he’s conservative is a toss up depending on the issue. He is more toward the center as well historically. Even though Obama stated in his speech last night that McCain voted with Bush 95% of the time, statistics show that McCain only voted with his party an average of 88% of the time overall, while Obama voted with his party 96.5% of the time. So those voters who selected Hillary that are more from the center on their views may very well choose McCain over Obama. I know I’m one of those voters. I could have supported Hillary almost as well as I support McCain if I were just looking for a nuetral center of gravity. Obama is just too far left for me, with totally liberal views – some bordering on radical in my personal opinion.
This may become one of the biggest issues for independents, as well as some democrats, in the general election.
Unfortunatly, I do think that Obama’s charm, wit, and charisma will overshadow his naivette and lack of experience. He has it all going for him right now – he’s riding the wave of new popularity. I’m not a big fan of McCain, but my vote for him will be a vote against Obama. I do not believe he will allow Hillary any more power or influence than he absolutely has to. He won’t make her his VP, although he will have to try and do something to win her support and endorsement.
When she realizes he won’t put her on the ticket with him, I wonder if she will endorse him though.
