A little bit of the past coming to light and it doesn’t reflect so hot on the Clinton campaign.
First, watch this video to refresh your memory from Monday’s (1/21/08) CNN Democratic Debate from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina:
She is referring to Tony Rezko, a “slum landlord” Obama was doing business with back in Chicago. Well it turns out the Clinton’s may have some connections with Rezko as well.
Here’s a story on that all from the The Swamp:
CHARLESTON, S.C.–A photo has surfaced that shows Hillary and Bill Clinton posing with Chicago developer Tony Rezko, a Barack Obama contributor whom Hillary Clinton condemned as a “slum landlord” supporter of the Illinois senator earlier this week.
Clinton was shown the photo during an interview on NBC’s Today Show this morning but told host Matt Lauer she did not remember meeting Rezko.
“No, I don’t,” Clinton told Lauer. “You know, I probably have taken hundreds of thousands of pictures.”
“I don’t know the man. I wouldn’t know him if he walked in the door. I don’t have a 17-year relationship with him,” Clinton added.
During a presidential debate Monday evening, Clinton blasted Obama for his relationship with Rezko, telling Obama she had fought Republican policies as first lady during the 1990s while “you were practicing law and representing your contributor, Rezko, in his slum landlord business in inner-city Chicago.”
Here is the picture of the Clintons with Tony Rezko:
Finally, here is her appearance on the Today Show this morning discussing the matter and stating how she doesn’t know Rezko and doesn’t remember the picture:
Obama has admitted his past connections to Rezko:
Obama publicly apologized for his 2005 property deal with Rezko, calling it “boneheaded” because Rezko was widely reported to be under grand jury investigation at the time. Rezko has since been indicted on corruption charges unrelated to his relationship with Obama and is scheduled to go on trial on Feb. 25.
Obama has given to charities $85,000 in Rezko-linked campaign contributions, including $40,035 last weekend following a published report suggesting that Rezko funneled a $10,000 donation to Obama through a business associate. Aides to Obama say the senator had no knowledge of any such scheme.
Obama has been accused of no wrongdoing involving Rezko and has insisted that he never used his office to benefit Rezko.
It is indeed quite possible that the Clintons took tons of pictures with people they weren’t closely associated with. However, I think the point in all this is that she accused Obama of his connections but she may connections to the same man and the same kind of dealings. Obama’s campaign wasted no time in issuing a statement accusing her of basically covering up her connections to Rezko.
We’ll see how this plays out over the next few days.

Clinton Tactics:
So far I have not seen the Obama camp be able to address this one tactical maneuver by the Clintons. Repeatedly, Hillary Clinton has lodged an attack on Obama and then afterwards said everyone should “rise above” the politics and focus on issues (or the Republicans).
This sort of political jabs can take a toll, and if she can continue to counter any ability to retaliate, it will be a successful war of political attrition.
Hillary Clinton is asking to reinstate delegates from Michigan and Florida. If her push is successful, she would come away with a few hundred delegates and move into a much more substantial lead in the Democratic Primary race.:

Everyone knew Michigan was a wash! Sure, it was Obama’s and Edwards’ choice to withdraw from Michigan, but then it became an unfair contest, in fact, no contest at all.
If the DNC issues a punishment, I think they should stick to it. I say this because of the Michigan voters who didn’t bother voting and even the ones that did. It’s sort of manipulating the electorate to strip delegates, have candidates withdraw, and then reinstate the delegates.
If a punishment is issued and all the candidates and voters are aware then it should stay in place.
That’s my 2 cents.
Clinton is good at side-stepping the question, she has been doing it for year. She has a lot of “Experience” is this arena. Maybe she should try crying again.
It seems like an extremely intelligent move on Hillary Clinton’s part. She was initially ahead in the polls throughout the states, and when Iowa went to Obama, he was able to build momentum in the upcoming states by campaigning in them.
He was not able to do this in Florida or Michigan. So, Edwards and Obama played the smart play of removing themselves from the ballot in Michigan, since they knew they were too far behind. Why are they not doing this again in Florida?
Perhaps it is closer than Michigan…
Point 1: The photo is undocumented, unconfirmed and undated. I could just as easily have put myself in the middle of the photo using photoshop, publish it to the web and nobody would know the difference. It’s just plain silly.
Point 2: There is no confirmed relationship with this individual. It looks like it could be one of thousands of photo’s you can find where a politician is posing with someone. Go to google image search and type any politician’s name and me, i.e. bush and me. Hundreds and sometimes thousands of photos will be there. If you are a public figure, people want to take photo’s with you.
Point 3. Matt Lauer, try to ask an intelligent policy question that has some bearing of who the person is. Oh, wait, this was on television…the Today Show no less…
