Ron Paul Raises $6 Million in 24-Hour Effort

This from MyWay:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul’s supporters raised over $6 million Sunday to boost the 10-term Texas congressman’s campaign for the White House.

Called a “Money Bomb,” the goal was to raise as much money as possible on the Internet in one day. The campaign’s previous fundraiser brought in $4.2 million.

At midnight EST, donations were over $6 million, according to the campaign Web site. Those donations are processed credit card receipts, said Paul campaign spokesman Jesse Benton. Benton said the median donation is about $50 in the fundraiser, which was the idea of Paul supporters who are not officially connected to the campaign.

Trevor Lyman, a Paul supporter who is traveling the country following the Ron Paul blimp, said the date of the fundraiser coincides with the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.

The Ron Paul blimp is an aerial billboard emblazoned on one side with “Who is Ron Paul? Google Ron Paul.” The other side reads “Ron Paul Revolution.” The blimp, another grass-roots effort, was in Chester, S.C., on Sunday, and organizers hope to get it to New Hampshire before the Jan. 8 primary there.

It’s a shame all this money will basically go to waste. I’m not saying that for any other reason than the fact that Ron Paul will not win any caucus, primary, or election in general. However, with this mount of money, he could choose to wage a third-party candidacy. He’s stated that he doesn’t plan on doing so but clearly he’s got huge fund raising ability.

No other candidate has come even close to matching the donating vigor of Ron Paul supporters.

  • This website is called “You Decide 2008”. What a joke! This website must be commissioned by Fox. Sounds too me like you are the one deciding with your overtly strong bias and condescending comments of Dr. Paul’s candidacy. I hope you don’t choke on that crow when you and your buddies feast upon it.

  • This website isn’t sanctioned by anyone but me.

What’s so condescending about stating that I don’t believe Ron Paul will win any of the caucuses or primaries? I don’t think Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo, Alan Keyes, Mike Gravel, Bill Richardson, or Chris Dodd will either, that’s just my opinion based on the polls.

I complemented Ron Paul on his fund raising ability. That doesn’t change the fact that he’s most likely not going to win anything.

You can’t get personal just because someone criticizes your favorite candidate.

AmericanWayne, Nate has come forth in the “About” section to admit he is a conservative and that this will be a bias. He has also taken strides to make space for Angry, who provides, presumably, the the liberal bias.

Paul has 4.5% of the national poll at the moment and is not leading in any of the approaching primaries, so Nate’s point is a valid– albeit harsh.

  • My apologies for not reading your “About” section. I found your website on youtube and this was linked to your video.

What hallowed “polls” are we looking at? The ones that exclude his name when the automated system calls all 4% of the republicans that voted in last election’s primaries? What about the polls that people pay to vote in; the straw polls? Who’s winning in those? Not Keyes, Hunter, Tancredo, Dodd, or anyone else. Ron Paul is winning and this money came from Americans, not faeries in Pixieland. That tells me a lot about who is winning despite a biased media.

Again, my apologies for coming across the way I did but you are not the only form of media that pulls these cards and it has built up. Perhaps since it doesn’t seem to bother Dr. Paul, it shouldn’t bother me because his message of peace, prosperity, and liberty is getting out there regardless.

Well, AmericanWayne, I guess we will see in a few weeks. If you are right, Ron Paul is going to get much more than 10% of the Iowa vote on January 3rd (as opposed to his project single-digits).

  • See, the thing is, it’s not that Ron Paul’s message isn’t out there enough AmericanWayne. He’s been at every debate, he does TV interviews all the time, he makes news every day for fund raising records. Where could his message get out more? Who is holding him down? I report on him all the time when he makes news, so does the major media.

He appeals to a voter niche, a very energized and financially generous niche but a small niche nonetheless.
