Obama Says He Has No Records Experience To Release

This from Yahoo! News:

RALEIGH, N.C. – Barack Obama, who’s been scolding Hillary Rodham Clinton for not hastening the release of records from her time as first lady, says he can’t step up and produce his own records from his days in the Illinois state Senate. He says he hasn’t got any.

“I don’t have — I don’t maintain — a file of eight years of work in the state Senate because I didn’t have the resources available to maintain those kinds of records,” he said at a recent campaign stop in Iowa. He said he wasn’t sure where any cache of records might have gone, adding, “It could have been thrown out. I haven’t been in the state Senate now for quite some time.”

Notice how he corrected the “I don’t have” to “I don’t maintain” before he told everyone he has no file for his eight years of service. I’ll bet this is true since you know full well that Hillary Clinton’s “people” are pouring through Obama’s records like white on rice. Looking for any embarrassing votes or positions.

The overt swipe at Hillary:

“Most of those guys do keep this stuff, especially the favorable stuff. They’ve all got egos,” said Taylor Pensoneau, a historian who has written about Illinois legislators and governors and worked with them as a lobbyist for the coal industry. “It goes in scrapbooks or maybe boxes. I don’t think it’s normal practice to say it’s all discarded.”

Ego indeed.

John Edwards has tried to get in on the party:

Meanwhile, the campaign of John Edwards — Clinton and Obama’s leading rival for the Democratic nomination — said Wednesday it will release the records from his single term representing North Carolina in the U.S. Senate.

Another desperate man trying to do anything he can to beat her in Iowa. Somehow I doubt releasing records will be the deal breaker to Democratic Iowa caucus voters.

Nate, why go off and politicize the headlines for these topics. Leave your comments in the spaces you designated– the black and white spaces between the boxed media references.

I don’t know any candidate currently who is releasing records from when they were politicians on the state level (not national level). Giuliani’s records as mayor are different, he ran an entire city. Obama was State Senator. Very big difference.

In many ways, the framing of this (by the media) is unfair. Hillary was at the executive branch with her husband. These records are important in accordance with her privileged position. Arguing that the failure to produce records from a provincial posting is equal to a failure to produce records from the executive branch is extremely imbalanced.

You don’t have the same power. You don’t have the same funds. And you don’t have built in mechanisms to store/contain records (as you would as a mayor, national senator, congress person, etc).

Here we go again, letting Obama off the hook. How can we accept a candidate that demands to see his opponent’s records of accomplishments while he has no records of his own accomplishment. He is touting that he has experience but has no proof of it. State officials and lawyers are required to keep records of their actions in the states where I have been a voting residents. Records of performance is the reason we vote for candidates. Are you telling a democratic society that we should elect a leader who has no record of performance? Or, are we saying that only women have to account for their accomplishments and behavior? I am glad that Hillary is staying in the race, the more they try to tear her down the more we learn about this “Paperless Tiger” Obama. If there is not a record of where he has been or what he has accomplished, there will be no map for where he will lead us. Using one of Obama’s famous remarks, “That’s ridulous”
