First, a video report from FOX News on the topic:
The question then is, which group is more important for Obama? In my opinion, it’s the larger block of black Christian voters he’s trying to appeal to. You can’t please gay groups like that unless you capitulate to their every beckon word.
The story from MSNBC:
WASHINGTON – A gay rights group on Monday urged Barack Obama to cut ties with a gospel singer who it says spreads false information about homosexuality being a choice.
Donnie McClurkin is among several gospel singers scheduled to raise money for the Illinois senator and Democratic presidential candidate at a concert in South Carolina this weekend.
McClurkin has drawn attention from gay rights activists for his views on homosexuality.
“I don’t believe that it is the intention of God,” McClurkin said Monday in a telephone interview. Sexuality, everything is a matter of choice.”
Isn’t the gay rights group being “intolerant” of McClurkin by asking Obama to drop him because of his “intolerant” views on homosexuality? It’s a two way street here! But that’s right, tolerance only works in one direction.
It’s rather funny to see this happening to a liberal Democrat like Obama. He’s so ultra-tolerant yet he’s willing to embrace some religious leaders like Donnie McClurkin who have a positive message about leaving homosexuality behind.
On the one hand, he’s totally compromising his own beliefs to pander toward Christians who may be more conservative on social issues than he is. I guess this brings me back to Giuliani who’s also trying to appeal to religious conservatives.
Also, here’s the Keith Boykin article referred to in the video.
