Democrats prepare for tonight’s debate

From Yahoo News:

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Eight Democratic presidential candidates will take part in a 90-minute debate tonight at South Carolina State University.

For their first debate, the White House hopefuls are trying to dampen expectations for themselves so that any bright moments will seem like home runs.

Oh joy!

“I’ve just got to make sure I don’t trip walking on the stage,” joked Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, who complained that the candidates get no opening or closing statements and that responses to questions are limited to 60 seconds.

Illinois Sen. Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record) cracked, “It takes me 60 seconds to clear my throat.”

Such self-deprecating comments before a debate are common in the Expectations Game. So is anonymous praise.

This will be sort of interesting to see how much attacking of each other there will be. Will Obama call Hillary a witch? Will Hillary point out the fact that Obama has less experience than a toddler?

Stay Tuned.

“NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams was set to moderate the MSNBC debate, which was being hosted by the university and the South Carolina Democratic Party. Special software designed by the network will keep track of how long each candidate gets on the air to ensure equal time.

It’s scheduled to be on MSNBC at 7pm Eastern. According to my trusty DirecTV program guide, it will be an hour and a half.

I have yet to discover if there will be a web stream but I don’t see one. We’ll undoubtedly have some video afterwards for the highlights and lowlights.

MSNBC will also host Republicans on May 3rd.

Update

Afterwards, I will try to post video of the entire debate.

Here’s the video
