America’s Mayor is in the game

Copy/paste from CNN: “NEW YORK (CNN) — Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, known for his apt city leadership after the September 11, 2001, attacks, took the first step toward a possible 2008 White House bid by forming a presidential exploratory committee.”

Hot Air has a bit more and some fun images which always add more to a story than boring text.

According to CNN:

Though there is strong support for his candidacy, Giuliani would be a controversial choice for the Republicans. His moderate views on social issues like gay rights and his opposition to banning certain types of late term abortion are likely to draw fire from religious conservatives.

Controversial may be a bit strong but he’s definitely quite liberal (screw moderate) on social issues. Of course, to CNN being for partial-birth abortion is “moderate”. Abortion and gay marriage have been two hot button issues which have mobilized morality voters in recent elections (2006 not withstanding). Giuliani is pro-choice and for gay marriage, both the opposite view of most conservative voters. One wonders how long both of those views will remain that way.

Giuliani has a very strong stance on terrorism. He’s proven it time and time again. He appeals to a broad spectrum. I’m excited that this sets up a McCain vs. Giuliani fight for a while.
